The name itself comes from the Aztec word “mictlan” which means “door to paradise”. Evidence of civilization in Punta Mita and its surroundings dates back to at least 2000 BC. C.
It is believed that at least six main cultural groups were present in the area before the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century. The first recorded civilization in the region was the Cora, an agricultural tribe that survived between 400 and 1200 AD. Although the tribe no longer exists, many of its descendants still live in the area. Let yourself be carried away by the fine sands, whimsical rock formations and the fresh air of Punta Mita, Mexico.
